The Role 

 

 The Senior Aspen Capital Markets (ACM) Business Partner will be responsible for operational accounting and finance reporting activities for ACM, assisting and reporting activities to ensure accuracy and consistency of underlying data, and to liaise with external and internal customers, to maintain statutory and regulatory compliance, and ensure alignment with Aspen’s finance policies.

Key Accountabilities

 

Strategy and Planning:

  • Extensive involvement with business planning, collaborating with the Group FP&A team, segment finance teams and ACM underwriting team.
  • Provide information to the ACM underwriting team to help guide investment and placement decisions
  • Act as a business partner to the ACM underwriting team.
  • Assist in the development of management information and analysis of the Aspen Capital Markets group of companies.
  • Contributes to functional strategy development and prioritises operational deliverables and activities of team to support delivery of overall business targets
  • Assist in the input and areas of Finance responsibility for the submissions of regulatory reports to the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

 

Policy, Process and Procedures:

  • Maintain Sarbanes Oxley compliant financial controls and procedures applicable to ACM.
  • Maintain compliance with statutory policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of year end audited GAAP financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of finance memorandums related to accounting research with respect to Aspen Capital Markets group of companies.
  • Assist the ACM Financial Controller and ACM CFO in preparation of board reporting packs and associated commentary.
  • Manage complex outwards reinsurance placements including extensive interaction with the US and UK finance teams.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and analysis in accordance with group and local deadlines.
  • Ensure quality in delivering client service by following through on requests in a timely manner, manage expectations for deliverables and reports, and identify issues.

 

Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus:

  • Produce and distribute cession statements to all Capital Market reinsurers.
  • Involvement with internal and external audits as required.
  • Assist with investor communications with respect to cash receipt or cash collection issues or queries.
  • Builds positive, open and constructive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to respond in a timely manner to ad-hoc queries ensure service delivery meets current and future business needs.

 

Technical Performance:

  • Perform key technical reinsurance calculations and account reconciliations.
  • Conducts reviews of results and prepares other ad-hoc reports/analyses to ensure stakeholder, legislative and regulatory requirements are best met.
  • Stay abreast of changes to GAAP accounting in relation to assumed reinsurance agreements, fee structures and other applicable standards.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience 

 

  • Internationally recognized professional designation (CA, ACA, CPA, CFA or equivalent).
  • 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a (re)insurance finance role.
  • Degree level education (or equivalent) (And relevance of degree subject to role) is preferred.
  • Experience of managing finance teams or groups of individuals with relevant subject matter expertise
  • Has established senior level customer/supplier/professional body relationships that are relevant to their role / specialism
  • Experience of resolving complex finance or accounting queries; and has significant experience of working with relevant specialist toolsets or applications
  • Working knowledge of best practice accounting and regional accounting standards
  • Technical understanding of service parameters and delegated authorities; including relevant operational goals / targets - and how this role contributes to overall performance
  • Knowledge of systems (CODA, Alteryx, Python) preferred
  • Demonstrated Fund / ILS experience is preferred.
  • Experience with advanced reinsurance accounting principles of US GAAP.
  • Experience with SOX controls, reviews and documentation requirements.
  • Strong technical (re)insurance financial knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Proactive, self-motivated with a team orientation.
