The Role:
Aspen Insurance is on the hunt for a seasoned Vice President of Property Catastrophe Underwriting. This role offers an exciting opportunity to translate business planning and growth appetite into market-facing, client-centric, and analytical opportunities. You will have the chance to develop a portfolio segment to conduct underwriting analysis on new and existing reinsurance business. As a senior technical and client-facing expert, your expertise will be pivotal in informing and delivering the future direction of our reinsurance strategy.

Key Accountabilities:
As the Vice President of Underwriting, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of our reinsurance strategy. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve underwriting a portfolio within our stated risk appetite and business plan. You will act as a senior technical expert, providing advice and guidance to colleagues while also representing the function by providing support and technical input to project teams. Your ability to make high value/highly complex underwriting decisions will be crucial in ensuring that compliance, effectiveness, and risk management is optimized.
- Underwrite a portfolio within our stated risk appetite and business plan
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues, promoting improved understanding of functional needs and standards
- Work closely with leads in support functions to influence development and improvement of policy/processes/systems
- Ensure compliance, effectiveness, and risk management is optimized
- Represent the function by providing support and technical input to project teams
- Engage with internal groups and external bodies, participating in industry forums and corporate level initiatives
- Collaborate with colleagues in the preparation of presentations and supporting documentation for external release
- Work proactively with Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance Operations teams to drive GWP, GEP, Loss Ratios, Expenses, and Underwriting profit
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
As the Vice President of Underwriting, you bring a wealth of experience in North American Property CAT underwriting strategy. Your extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio will be invaluable in this role. You have proven experience in risk profiling, pricing tools, and loss models. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with your strong negotiation skills make you an ideal candidate for this role. Proficiency in MS Office applications is a must, and your ability to manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines will be crucial.
- Thorough knowledge and experience of North American Property CAT underwriting strategy (10 + years)
- Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio
- Experience in risk profiling, pricing tools and loss models
