The Role 

 

As a Data Engineer, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and architectures to facilitate data-driven decision-making within the organization. This role involves working closely with senior data engineers and other stakeholders to ensure data integrity, quality, and accessibility. The ideal candidate will contribute to the continuous improvement of data processes and leverage emerging technologies to enhance data capabilities.

 

Key Accountabilities       

 

Strategy and Planning  

  • Contribute to the delivery of our overarching data engineering strategy, enabling all users with the capability to access data and insights for decision making
  • Support the execution of comprehensive data strategies that align with Aspen’s strategic objectives
  • Follow and promote best practices and standards in data engineering to ensure consistency, reliability and quality across all data processes
  • coordinate technical design on squad & data architecture team
  • Support the design and delivery of the data engineering framework on Azure Synapse, with a focus on building out our single version of truth.
  • Co-Create the engineering standards for the analytical data sets and reports to ensure consistent delivery of analytical products across
  • Reviewing user requirements, lead the design of user Interface designs in Power BI including the guidelines for using the appropriate visualisations to match the insights use case.
  • Contributes to explanations explains technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team members.
  • Reviews end product with the client to ensure adequate understanding and confirmation the deliverables meet user acceptance criteria before production.
  • Provide data analysis, engineering, data model, and data management guidance the rest of the engineering unit.
  • Ensures that all code is well structured, includes sufficient documentation, and is easy to maintain and reuse.
  • Gains expertise in tools, technologies, and applications/databases in specific business areas and company-wide systems. 
  • Troubleshoots software and processes for data consistency and integrity.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve Aspen’s data to increase employee productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction
  • Identifies/supports continuous improvement and step-change opportunities, to increase cost effectiveness and/or infrastructure flexibility.
  • Actively participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and encourage adherence to established guidelines within the team
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data processes, architectures and workflows
  • Implement data validation and cleansing processes to maintain high data quality standards.

 

Technical Performance

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in building data engineering pipelines, within a data lake house environment.
  • Significant experience in working within cloud-based data infrastructure most notably Azure including tools such as Data Factory, Data Bricks, Synapse and Power BI
  • Experience coding in both SQL, DAX 
  • Basic understanding of python and SQL within a spark environment
  • Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to include attainment of associated qualifications where required.
  • Acknowledged as Data professional and expert.
  • Strong profile and credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Positive feedback from relevant stakeholders and departments.
  • Appropriate security and control mechanisms in place.
  • Data frameworks and data assets meet the needs of the business.
  • Relevant business plan targets achieved.
  • Provide advice and mentoring to other engineers.
  • Reporting deadlines satisfy senior management requirements.

 

Skills & Experience 

  • Good knowledge of Cloud, Python, Coding, Azure or AWS, Power BI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge and awareness of technology services which could the data and analytics space
  • Deep knowledge of data modelling for analytics – i.e., Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Data Mesh architecture
  • Awareness of data science methodologies and frameworks
  • Specific professional qualifications at the level of degree or equivalent (e.g., computer science, management of information systems or similar).
  • Expert in creating visualisations that support decision making.
  • Experience within Financial Services (especially Insurance)
  • Qualified within own personal discipline, with extensive post-qualification work experience to include:
    • Evidence of supporting technical and operational strategy.
    • Working as part of a senior team within a complex organisation (preferably within financial services industry)
    • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation.
