Role Purpose 

 

Delivers global segment financial results to the Executive Committee, Segment senior management and underwriters, supporting the production of the annual financial business plan working with multiple departments across the organisation, preparing insightful analysis to support the commercial decision-making process to identify opportunities and threats. Works in partnership with Global Underwriting Product Heads, Group MI and the Segment CFO to drive the accuracy and timeliness of MI and support in the production of the annual business plan. Key Results Areas

 

  • Contributes to the production of the global segment annual business plan, partnering with Underwriting Heads to drive an optimised business plan 
  • Collaborates and supports the Head of Segment Finance on segment-led projects/activities, taking ownership and accountability as directed on specific projects/activities    •    Demonstrates awareness and understanding of Aspen and segment’s strategy and FP&A activities through effective judgement and analysis
  • Delivers high quality analysis and commentary in a timely and effective manner
  • Positive stakeholder feedback, including segment executive
  • Collaborate and supportive in planning and delivery of projects/activities

 

Policy, Process and Procedures

 

  • Work collaboratively with internal colleagues to coordinate responses on MI, plan, reforecasts and financial reporting activities relating to pricing, claims, expenses and investments
  • Responsible for identifying improvement opportunities and designing and implementing associated enhancements 
  • Utilises the data stored in the Group’s FP&A toolset for segment requirements, observing and contributory to enhancing data integrity 

 

Technical Performance 

 

  • Drive the analysis and reporting of Global Segment MI and quarterly results for management and the ExCo.
  •  Manage the production of Segment CFO Financial reporting, including board decks.
  • Provide creative insights, implications, and recommendations about current and future trends and areas for improvement, focus or investment. 
  • Develop KPIs / KRIs and efficient mechanisms for tracking and continuous improvement.

 

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of FP&A software or similar databases
  • Detailed knowledge of the industry’s best practice processes
  • Deep understanding of the managed service and consulting providers
  • Sound knowledge of problem analysis and decision analysis
  • Strong understanding of underlying needs of the business and how own role contributes to these
  • Business and financial awareness of the impact of Service Levels and any associated failures

 

Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to relay information clearly and concisely in both written and verbal communications
  • Analytical with a commercial and continuous improvement mind-set
  • Able to establish and maintain relationships with many stakeholders (from ExCo to operational level)
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the ability to utilise query functions 
  • Some VBA skills with willingness to develop
  • Strong attention to detail

 

Experience 

  • Professional accounting qualification (ICAEW, ICAS, ACA, ACCA, CIMA),
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry
  • Previous experience in an accounting role with exposure to insurance accounting and reporting
